Effect of dry and wet heat treatment on elastic properties of PET/PTT bicomponent fibers

Poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) is a desirable filament spinning material, while poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) presents an outstanding performances in different environments. In this paper, PET/PTT bicomponent fibers were prepared and their tensile properties, elastic recovery and sonic orientation under dry and wet heat treatments were studied. The results revealed that the breaking strength, elastic recovery ratio and sonic orientation of the PET/PTT bicomponent fibers decreased, but the breaking elongation increased after the dry and wet heat treatments.
