Synthesis and characterization of N-methylpolyborosilazane as a precursor of Si-B-N ceramic fibers
N-methylpolyborosilazane (PBS-Me) may act as a preceramic precursor to obtain high-performance Si/B/N ceramic fibers which exhibit superior thermo-physical and chemical properties. In this paper, we synthesized the polymeric precursor PBS-Me from the single-source precursor Cl3Si-NH-BCl2 (TADB). This molecular contains Si-N-B bridge and is fully functionalized by chlorine, which allows for rapid polymerization by aminolysis with subsequent polycondensation. The reaction yielded a yellow glass-like residue with a softening point of about 135 ℃. The as-obtained polymer was characterized by means of FTIR, NMR and TG and it contained the Si-N-B bond structure required for the synthesis of a multi-component ceramic fiber.
