Investigation on the gradient solidification processing of PAN precursor during dry-jet-wet spinning
Based on the thermodynamic phase diagram, coagulation formation for PAN-based carbon fiber precursor in spinning process was investigated in the paper. In order that the phase separation can take place at the inter-region between the binodal curve and spinodal curve, PAN precursor with various microstructures was prepared by gradient solidification processing in dry-jet-wet spinning, which can be acquired through corresponding thermodynamic path in phase diagram. The morphology and mechanical properties of PAN precursor were examined with scanning electron microscope (SEM) and mechanical measurement, respectively. Meanwhile, the influence of fiber-forming conditions on the microstructure of PAN precursor was discussed. Judging from our investigation, it can be concluded that forming path of gradient solidification in ternary phase diagram was optimal thermodynamic path.
