Quasi-static tensile property test of the 3D thick orthogonal woven aramid fabric

In this study, the quasi-static tensile property of the 3D orthogonal woven aramid fabric was studied. In preparing the tensile specimens, a new method in which a bracing sheet was contained was applied to avoid the stress concentration. The results showed that the tensile strength of the dog-bone specimen reached 2.2GPa with the failure strain of about 4.26%, which were better than the rectangular ones. The fracture appearances of the two kinds of specimens showed that the rectangular one is likely to be broken close to the specimen ends due to the stress concentration of fabric when tested, while yarns were broken and pulled out from the middle of the dog-bone specimens.
