Crystallization kinetics and miscibility of iPP/PcBR blends
Isotactic polypropylene/poly(cis-butadiene) rubber (iPP/PcBR) blends were prepared by melt mixing. Non-isothermal crystallization and miscibility for neat iPP and blends of iPP/PcBR were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The presence of PcBR remarkably affected non-isothermal crystalline behaviors of iPP. Introduction of PcBR resulted in higher crystallization peak temperature and faster crystallization rate, which meaned a heterogeneous nucleation effect of PcBR upon crystallization of iPP. For the same sample, the crystallization peak temperature moved to lower temperature and the crystallization rate increased as the cooling rate increased. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of iPP, PcBR and blends was measured by DMA. Two peaks in DMA spectra, respectively corresponding to iPP rich phase and PcBR rich phase, approach each other with increasing PcBR content, indicating partial miscibility of two compositions.
