Synthesis, characterization and properties of a reactive thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer
A serials of new reactive thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer-methacryloyl copolymers (LCMC) containing polyester mesogenic units with different relative molecular weight were synthesized and characterized. The LCMC/glass fiber (GF)/unsaturated polyester (UP) in-situ hybrid composites containing LCMC with different relative molecular weight were prepared by molding technique. Their mechanical properties were systemically investigated at a fixed 5wt% LCMC concentration. The results showed that compared to the unmodified systems, the impact strength of the composites was enhanced by 62.0% (n=50), the bending strength was enhanced by 31.3%(n=10), and bending modulus was enhanced by 30.8%(n=10).
