High glass transition and optical transparency of novel polyimide containing 4- tert-butyltoluene moiety
Novel polyimide (PI) 3 was prepared from 4,4’-diaminodiphenyl-4-tert-butyltoluene and 3,3’,4,4’-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride via a one-step high-temperature polycondensation. The obtained PI 3 showed good solubility in many common solvents such as NMP, DMAc, and chloroform. The resulting strong and flexible film exhibited high thermal stability with the glass transition temperature at 359 ℃ and the temperature at 10% weight loss beyond 502 ℃ in both air and nitrogen atmospheres. Moreover, the film also showed high optical transparency, with an UV cutoff wavelength in the range of 374 nm and the transparency at 450 nm more than 80%.
