Preparation and properties of a new kind of thermal regulating fibers based on PP and methyl stearate/methyl palmitate mixture

A new kind of thermal regulating fibers based on PP and mixture of methyl stearate (MS) and methyl palmitate (MP) was prepared by melting spinning method. Mixture of MS/MP was selected as phase change materials (PCMs) to store energy and PP was the matrix. The thermal regulating fibers were characterized by DSC, SEM, TGA and tensile strength tester. The results show that the properties of the fibers which have the best thermal properties are: the latent heat of melting and crystallizing are 21.70 and 20.69J/g; the melting temperature range is from 27.88 to 36.59℃; the crystallizing temperature range is from 29.36 to 12.63℃; the tensile strength is 2.01cN/dtex; the elongation at break is 11%.
