Effect of chemical treatment on elastic properties of polyolefin based elastic fiber XLATM
Polyolefin based fiber XLATM is known as elastic fiber resistant to high temperature, UV light and chemicals. The elasticity of XLATM fibers were studied and compared with spandex after they are treated with chemicals such as Sodium hypochlorite (NaClO), sulfuric acid (H2SO4), and Sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The treated conditions were chosen according to the processing parameters used in practice. It was found that the chemical treatment has no obvious effect on the elastic recovery of XLATM fibers as that of spandex. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy could not detect any change in the character band of fibers treated by Sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The results suggest that polyolefin based elastic fiber XLATM have good resistance to general chemical agent used in textile processing and excellent elastic recovery for alkali treatment.
