Synthesis, structure and photochromic properties of a novel supramolecular compound (HisH2)2SiW12O40·6H2O

A novel supramolecular single-crystal compound, histidine salt of 12-silicotungstate ((HisH2)2SiW12 O40·6H2O, denoted as HSW), has been synthesized by a solution method and its structure has been characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction technique and FTIR spectra. This supramolecular compound mainly consists of a polyoxometalate anions SiW12O404-and two protonated histidine cations HisH22+. Its crystal structure belongs to monoclinic system (space group C2/c) with a=24.4005(18), b=12.9788(10), c=18.6898(14)., β=124.0380(10) °, V=4904.8(6).3, Z=4 and Dcalc=4.465 g cm-3. The final statistics based on F2 are GOF=1.268, R1=0.0344 and wR2=0.0851 for I>2σ(I). X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that in the crystal structure of HSW, the anions SiW12O404-and HisH22+cations formed a three dimensional network through hydrogen bonds. The HSW compound shows photochromic properties under UV irradiation.
