Analysis of moisture liberation of flexible fiber assembly

Moisture liberation and absorption property of flexible fiber assembly greatly affects application and functions, especially for smart fibers materials and membrane. It is meaningful to express the water liberation property of smart fibre assembly to better control and utilize the fibres. The paper was to present one method and an apparatus to analyze the moisture liberation of flexible fiber assembly under special experimental conditions with high temperature and fast air flow speed. It can be used to monitor the whole water liberation process and to explain the hydrophilic property of different fibers. Moreover, it was utilized to measure water content of fiber assembly. The innovation of the paper is that the water content of fibre assembly can be measured quickly no more than 10 minutes, while the current oven method needs at least half an hour. Five kinds of fibres, such as PTT, silk, wool, rayon and Kapok fibres, were selected to study the moisture liberation behaviour and to measure water content. The results showed that the method was good in characterizing the moisture liberation property and testing the moisture regain of fiber assembly, and the apparatus is accurate and effective in measure water content of fibre assembly.
