Effect of voltage on electrospinning oil sorptive fiber
Electrospinning is a convenient method used in the preparation of ultrafine oil sorptive fibers based on ethylene-propylene-diene (EPDM). Electrospun fiber diameter, varying largely from micrometer to nanometer, mainly depends upon the applied voltage, and has great influence on the function fibers sorption ability. The non-linear relation between applied voltage (V) and mean fiber diameter(d) was investigated and it follows a simple scaling law in the formd V ∝. This relationship can be used to predict the target fiber diameter and guide the processing technique. The sorption ability of ultrafine EPDM fiber to remove cyclohexane from aqueous solution increased with increasing applied voltage. Swelling kinetic results showed that the removal rate fitted the first order kinetic model well, which suggested the swelling process could reach equilibrium within a short time.
