Effect of process parameters on the peeling properties of thermoplastic preforms produced from co-wrapped PP/flax yarn

The effects of process parameters of weave fabric preform made form co-wrapped flax/PP yarns on the peeling properties of perform and composite were investigated. The co-wrapped yarns were produced by co-wrapped spinning with flax yarn and PP, and then fabric performs were prepared by weaving, which was easy to impregnate and permeate by hot pressing. The different cavity thickness and process parameters were studied, including the hot pressing pressure, time and temperature. It was found that the cavity thickness has greatly influence on the tensile strength and peeling strength of thermoplastic composites, and the properties are perfect when design the thickness with 0.8~1.2mm. Meanwhile, by orthogonal design and analysis of variance method, the hot forming process parameters on peeling properties of composites were optimized, along with the optimized values of pressure of 7 MPa, time of 5 min and temperature of 175℃. The microscopic graph of the peeling bonding section shows that there exists a good combination of interface and bonding properties.
