Study on dyeing property of chitosan pretreated tussah silk fabric dyed with natural dyes
Tussah silk fabric was pretreated with chitosan, and then dyed with natural dyestuff extracted from mugwort, sappanwood and coptis chinensis. The dyeing properties of tussah silk fabric with and without chitosan pretreatment were evaluated. The surface morphology of silk fabric was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The K/S value and the color characteristic values(L, a, b)of the dyed fabric were measured by Datacolor SF600 color measurement and matching machine, and color fastness was also tested. The results indicate that chitosan fixed on the surface of the tussah silk increases the surface roughness and the specific surface area of the fiber. The K/S value increases remarkably and color fastness to crocking and washing increases slightly when silk fabric is pretreated with chitosan and dyed with the dying of mugwort and sappanwood. However, for the silk fabric dyed with coptis chinensis, the K/S value decreases slightly and the color fastness changes a little before and after chitosan treatment. And chitosan treatment has a little influence on color tones for the three kinds of dyes.
