Crystallization behavior of biodegradable blends of Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) and poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)

Biodegradable blends of poly (3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) and poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) were prepared with the ratio of PHBV/PBAT ranging from 100/0-0/100 by weight ratio by Haake Torque Rheometer. The crystallization behavior and crystal morphology of the blends were investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and polarizing optical microscopy (POM). DSC and XRD showed that the degree of crystallinity PHBV obviously changed with PBAT content and the temperature of the blends crystallization, showing a regular change, was higher than the single component. POM results indicated that PBAT break the shape of PHBV spherulite with the increase of PBAT.
