Synthesis and characterization of norbornene polymers containing azobenzene chromophore

Two kinds of norbornene monomers containing azobenzene chromophore were synthesized, and then their ring-opening metathesis polymerization gives two corresponding novel polymers that are potentially good materials for photorefractive applications. These two polymers were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, UV-Vis, GPC, DSC and TG. Molecular weight (Mn) of the polymers are higher than 1.0×104 as measured by GPC. The polymers are relatively stable at 280℃.
