Synthesis and characterization of transition metal-containing polyamides
Well-characterized metal-containing polymers have led to a rapidly expanding interest in their properties and potential applications. The incorporation of metal atoms into synthetic polymer chains leads to macromolecular structures in which metals are not only incorporated via the use of traditional covalent bonds but also by potentially reversible coordination interactions. In our work, a transition metal coordination complex monomer was prepared firstly, by the reaction of CuCl2·2H2O and p-aminobenzoic acid at room temperature. This monomer complex has been structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Novel metal-containing polyamide was synthesized by the polycondensation of complex monomer containing carboxylic group and p-phenylene diamine. The structure and property of this transition metal-containing polymer were characterized by IR and inherent viscosity.
