Synthesis of unsaturated aliphatic polyester and its application in polyester-polyurethane
Biodegradable unsaturated aliphatic polyesters have been prepared from fumaric acid (FA), diethylene glycol (DEG) by melt polycondensation method. Polyesters were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra, hydroxyl value, acid value and the intrinsic viscosity. Enzymatic degradation and cross-linking characterization were also investigated. Cross-linking degree and the degree of conversion (DC) of carbon-carbon double bond showed that the unsaturated aliphatic polyesters have excellent self-crosslinking nature under high temperature. It was found that the biodegradation of polyester could be controlled by the cross-linking degree. Polyester-polyurethane adhesive was prepared from the synthesized unsaturated polyester as the soft segment, 2, 4-toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and 1, 4-butanediol (BD) as the hard segment. The peeling strength and the enzymatic degradation of polyester-polyurethane were also investigated. It was found that the biodegradation of polyurethane adhesive was lower compared with the original unsaturated aliphatic polyester. Moreover, with the increase of molecular weight of the polymer, the increase of intra-and intermolecular entanglements led to the difficulty in enzymatic degradation. The polyester-polyurethane adhesive has good adhesive property.
