Changes in the crystalline properties of chinese fir wood by heat-treatment
The objective of this study was to determine the changes in crystallinity, width of crystallite and crystalline type of heat-treated Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata Hook) wood specimens by means of XRD and FTIR. Thermal modifications in the presence of air with the temperature of 140℃, 160℃, 180℃, 200℃ and 220℃ for various heat-treatment durations (0.5 to 28 h) were done by oven-dried wood specimens. The results showed that the complex reactions of main components caused the mass loss remarkably. The same trend were obtained while the inflection point of those occurred at 180℃ and 200℃, respectively. However, it was determined that the monoclinic structure (Iβ) and triclinic structure (Iα) were not affected by thermal modification and monoclinic structure was dominant in crystalline of wood specimens.
