Preparation of electrospun fibers from regenerated silk fibroin/sericin aqueous solutions
In this paper, regenerated silk fibers were successfully prepared from silk fibroin/sericin (SF/SS) aqueous solutions using electrospinning method. The influence of the mass ratio of SF and SS on the rheological behaviors and the spinnabilities of the solutions was investigated. The morphology and the structure of the electrospun fibers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It was found that with the increase of SS content, the apparent viscosity and the spinnability of the mixture increased, while the average diameters and the diameter distributions of the electrospun fibers decreased. The addition of SS in the SF aqueous solution induced the conformational transition of the regenerated SF/SS electrospun fibers from random coil/α-helix to β-sheet structure and further improved their thermal properties.
