Fabrication and degradation of electrospun nanofibers derived from biodegradable tercopolymers

The nano-structured fibers of the tercopolymers derived from trimethylene carbonate (TMC), L-lactide (LLA) and ε-caprolactone (CL) were prepared via electrospinning. The morphology, diameter size and degradation behavior of the nanofibers were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM); the crystallinity and thermal properties were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results showed that the morphology and average diameter of the electrospinning fibers changed with the processing parameters. The Tg, Tm and Wc of the nano-fibers were all higher than that of the corresponding copolymers. The degradation rate of sample TPE-2 was faster than that of TPE-1, and after degradation time of 225 days, the fiber morphologies of TPE-1 and TPE-2 were different.
