Preparation and properties of polyacrylonitrile/ carbon nanotubes composite fibers by plasticized melt spinning

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were used as a reinforcing phase in a polyacrylonitrile (PAN) matrix to prepare polyacrylonitrile/Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (PAN/MWNTs) fibers by plasticized melt spinning. The composite fibers were investigated by means of DMA,TG, FESEM and mechanical testing. The results showed that the storage moduli of the composite fibers were improved and the composites fibers had higher thermal stability than pure PAN. The mechanical properties of MWNT/PAN composite fiber can be greatly enhanced by incorporation of MWNTs, which was well dispersed in the PAN matrix.
