Light fastness of cotton fabric treated with Titania sol
A titania nanosol was prepared by the sol-gel method using tetrabutyl titanate (TTB) as precursors. The sol and its gel were characterized by photo correlation spectroscopy (PCS) and XRD, respectively. Before the sol-gel treatment, fabrics were dyed with C.I. Reactive Red 15, C.I. Reactive Blue 5 and C.I. Reactive Yellow 2. Ultraviolet (UV) transmittance of fabric was tested by a Lambda 750 UV/VIS spectrometer. ΔE was used to express color change of fabric exposure to UV radiation under a Xenon lamp. Results show that TiO2 particles in the sol are about 25 nm. The crystalline structure of TiO2 powders heated at 140℃ is identified as the amorphous oxide network. The TiO2 coating is a good ultraviolet radiation (UVR) protection for the treated fabric, especially in the range of 200-315nm. Application of the TiO2 sol results in a clear enhancement in light fastness of fabric expose to the xenon lamp.
