Synthesis and Properties of Novel Polyurethane

A novel polyurethane was synthesized by a diol monomer containing benzene ring and polyether ended by isocyanate (NCO) at the two terminals. After purifying the polyurethane, the mechanical property, thermal stability and other performances of the polyurethane were tested by FTIR, TGA, DMA, and DSC. Some particular characteristic absorption peaks in FTIR spectrum prove the acquisition of the target polymer. TGA curve shows that of the polyurethane has two-stage decomposition. The largest decomposition rate occurred at about 300 and 400℃, respectively. Three endothermic peaks in DSC trace can be seen at about 20, 50 and 220℃. The mechanical property of the polyurethane elastic fiber prepared by wet spinning method has also been studied. The strength and breaking elongation of the polyurethane fiber are 0.12cN/dtex and 391.9%, respectively.
