The effect of microspheres on the rheological behaviour of PP/PP-g-MAH composite system

Polypropylene (PP) and maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (PP-g-MAH) with the addition of the nano-particles (St/MMA/BA), which could solve the dispersion problem, were prepared by melt blending to improve the dyeability of composition fibres. The rheological behaviour of PP/PP-g-MAH and the blends were investigated by rotational rheometer. The effects of shear rate, shear stress and temperature on the flow of the blends and PP/PP-g-MAH were discussed. The non-Newtonian indexes and the activation energies of viscous flow were obtained. The results indicated that the melt apparent viscosity was decreased with the addition of the nano-particles, and the melt apparent viscosity was also decreased with the increase of shear rate and shear stress. The adding of nano-particles could reduce melt viscosity for melt-spinning even at comparatively lower temperature.
