The effect of polyacrylonitrile molecular weight in the blend system on nano carbon fiber preparation
As one kind of high performance fibers, carbon fiber is widely used in the industrial fields with the excellent mechanical property. Nano carbon fiber is a new form of carbon fiber with nanometer size in diameter and great ratio of length over diameter, becoming a research hotspot in recent years. The polymer blend technique is proposed as a novel but convenient method for designing carbon fibers. In this paper, we used polyacrylonitrile (PAN) as carbon precursor polymer (CPP) and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) as thermally decomposable polymer (TDP) to prepare nano carbon fiber by polymer blend technique. By research on the effect of the molecular weight and proportion of the PAN in the blend system on the nano carbon fiber preparation, we concludes that high molecular weight and small proportion can make the PAN as the dispersed phase in the blend system which guarantees the nano carbon fiber preparation.
