Preparation and Characterization of Polyacrylate Sizing Agent Modified by Nano-Montmorillonite
The montmorillonite was modified with cation surfactant cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) before it was used as modifying polyacrylate sizing agent, and thus the organic montmorillonite (O-MMT) was obtained. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to characterize the structure of O-MMT. Four kinds of vinyl monomers such as acrylic acid (AA), ethyl acrylate (EA), butyl acrylate (BA), methyl methacrylate (MMA) were used in the process of synthesis. The synthetic process was controlled in the same circumstance and the O-MMT was varied with their % composition from 0% to 6% by weight. The effect of liquor viscosity and its stability, moisture absorption of the sizing films was studied. The nanocomposites were further analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).
