The dyeability of poly(L-lactic acid) nonwoven fabric fabricated by electrospinning

The poly (L-lactic acid) (PLLA) nonwoven fabric fabricated by electron spinning was dyed with high temperature and high pressure method. The disperse dye solutions of dyed and undyed were analyzed by spectrophotometer. The effects of pH value, temperature, time and dye concentration on the dye uptake of PLLA nonwoven fabrics were researched. The results show that the highest dye uptake of electron-spun PLLA nonwovens is only 59.26 % due to its high specific surface area and ease to be bonded together tightly at high temperature. The dye uptake of electron-spun PLLA nonwovens is strongly affected by pH of dye solution, time, temperature and dye concentration. The dye uptake of electron-spun PLLA nonwoven fabric increased with the increase of pH value when the pH value was lower than 5.0. While it decreased with the increase of pH value as the pH value was higher than 5.0. When the dyeing time was shorter than 35 min, the dye uptake increased with time, but as the dyeing time was longer than 45 min, the dye uptake decreased with time. It reached the highest point when the dyeing lasted for 35 min.
