The rheological and mechanical properties of poly(acrylonitrile)/attapulgite nanocomposite
Nanocomposites based on attapulgite (AT) and poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN) were fabricated by mechanical blending in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). The rheological behaviours of PAN/AT solutions were investigated by ARES rheometer with cone-plate geometry. The results indicated that the orientation of small amount of AT nanoparticles under steady shear may improve the fluidity whereas large amount of AT lead to an increase of viscosity of the solution. The mechanical properties the nanocomposite fibers showed that the tensile strength reached a maximum with incorporation of 1wt% AT, while the value of elongation at break decreased with increasing AT content.
