Dispersion of multiwalled carbon nanotubes in aqueous solution
Carbon nanotubes (CNT) have attracted a great deal of attention since their unique properties. However, due to van der Waals forces of the nanotubes, their poor dispersion in aqueous or organic solvents has limited their practical applications. In our work, we chose several kinds of surfactants to improve the dispersion of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) in aqueous solution, including polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) and sodium dodecylsulfate(SBS). The dispersion was investigated by UV-vis spectroscopy, particle-size analyzer and FTIR. After these processes, we made further efforts on finding the optimum mass of SDBS for MWNT dispersion.
