Thermal decomposition kinetics of carbon nanotubes/ polyimide nanocomposites

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs)/polyimide (PI) nanocomposites were prepared by mixing polyamic acid solution with modified MWNTs followed by casting films and thermal imidization. Thermal gravimetric analyzer (TGA) was employed to measure the decomposition behavior of polyimide and its nanocomposite films. Thermal decomposition kinetics of polyimide and the nanocomposite films were analyzed using Flynn-Wall-Ozawa and Kissinger methods. The results showed that the decomposition temperature and the activation energy of polyimide increase with increasing load of the modified MWNTs.
