A Study of High-quality Extraction of Impact-Sound with Microphone Array

Recently, the high-quality extraction of impact-sound is hoped to design all products in the sports field, e.g., baseball, tennis, golf, etc. If we can find the suitable features on impactsounds, the cost and speed for product design might be improved rapidly. It is necessary to close the distance between the microphone and the impact-sound source as the high-quality extraction method of impact-sound. However, if the distance between the microphone and the impact-sound source is too close, it is difficult to extract the impact-sound with highquality because of mixing with the wind-noise in the sports field. It is therefore indispensable for high-quality impact-sound extraction to investigate the optimum recording position where has lower influence of wind-noise. In this paper, we try to extract the high-quality golf impact-sound with optimum arranged microphone array in wind-noise robust recording position. We firstly carried out pre-experiments with 36 microphones located at the neighborhood of golf impact-sound source to find optimum recording position where has lower influence of wind-noise. As a result of pre-experiments, we confirmed that optimum recording position where has lower influence of wind-noise is 40cm distance far from impact-sound source. We carried out evaluation experiments based on pre-experimental results. As a result of evaluation experiments, we confirmed that the impact-sound can be accurately extracted with optimum recording position based on preexperimental results.
