Pulse Compression in Ultrasonic Testing

The effect of the pulse compression in ultrasonic testing is restricted by the bandwidth of transducer. This paper presents a deconvolution method to obtain an excitation signal which can make the ultrasonic testing system output the linear frequency modulated (LFM) test signal with a large time-bandwidth product. Effective compression signals with high resolution and low sidelobes are achieved in both simulation analysis and experiment. The influence of transducers bandwidth on the pulse compression ratio and the comparison with LFM exciting method is also discussed.
