Study on vibration response of a ship structure with multiexcitations by experiment

The vibration response of complex structures, such as ships, is usually induced by multiexcitations. So it is valuable to investigate laws of the vibration response of structures with multi-excitations. In order to take the coupling relationship among excitations into account, the technique for measuring vibration response of structures with multi-excitations is developed. Two vibration exciters were used as the excitation sources, and signal phase difference between them was controlled by the Pulse system. Six miniature low-impedance accelerometers were used to measure accelerations of a structure in the x, y and z directions. The cylindrical shell is a structure used in underwater ships abroad. So a cylindrical shell whose diameter and length are 0.46m and 1m, respectively, was designed for tests, and accelerations of 6 points on the cylindrical shell were measured. First, the test results were compared with the numerical results predicted by FEM when forces between the two vibration exciters were uncoupled, which shows the validity of the measurement technique. Then, laws of the vibration response of structures with multi-excitations was concluded, which shows effects of the phase difference on structure vibration response is obvious and cannot be ignored, and the coupling relationship among excitation forces will change according to different frequencies.
