Citius, Altius, Fortius? Moral and immoral interpretations of athletic performance
The Olympic motto Citius, Altius, Fortius indicates the key value attributed to performance and progress in sport. However, there arc various and to a certain extent, contradictory views on what sport performances ought to be all about. A systematic and critical review is given of three ideal-typical interpretations in this respect. In summary, this presentation speculates about the future development of competitive sport.
