Does vigorous leisure time physical activity buffer against stress-induced health problems among adolescents?
Introduction In industrialized countries, stress is a very important topic. Research shows that many people feel stressed, which results in considerable health costs (Ramaciotti & Perriard, 2001). Thus, public health must find ways to prevent stress and to improve peoples capacity to deal successfully with psychosocial strains. As a consequence, public health has identified a variety of salutogenetic resources as potential moderators (Adler & Matthews, 1994). Also, the potential role of a physically active lifestyle has been emphasized (cp. Kobasa, Maddi, & Puccetti, 1982).
