Childrens play choice and physical activity levels between an active and seated game setting

Introduction Only one third of children worldwide are found to have sufficient levels of physical activity for health benefits (WHO, 2007). Use of electronic media such as viewing television and playing computers and electronic games are the main sedentary activities children engage during leisure time (Hardus, Vuuren, Crawford, & Worsley, 2003; Must & Tybor, 2005; Vandewater, Shim, & Caplovitz, 2004). There is widespread concern that this kind of electronic media contributes to childhood obesity problems. Contemporary researchers have attempted to make use of different physical activity games as effective strategies to develop and encourage children to adopt a more active lifestyle.
