Economic impact of the 2010 Asian games on the Pan-Pearl River Delta area
Introduction Large sporting events are expected to bring about economic prosperity for the host city. Some of the literature to date is lacking as it provides qualitative discussion but little quantitative evidence (Dong, 2004). Zhou et al, 2006, provides data on government expenditure of large sporting events to forecast the effects based on the multiplier theory. However, multipliers are known to change over time and the International Olympic Committees (IOCs) call for cost savings undermine the explanatory power.
