Memory strategy use on childrens recall of a timing task
Introduction Several studies have reported the benefits of using memory strategies to enhance learning in the cognitive domain (e.g., Corsale & Ornstein, 1980; Cox, Ornstein, Naus, Maxfield, & Zimler, 1989; Garner, 1990). The literature is less robust with respect to the usefulness of memory strategies when performing a motor skill (e.g., Stelmach, 1970; Thomas, Thomas, Lee, Testerman, & Ashy, 1983). No information exists in the motor domain with regard to a childs ability to use memory strategies in the recall of motor timing tasks. Timing is fundamental to movement and sport skills, musical performance, as well as speech and the performance of timed motor tasks.
