Contributions of segmental velocity increments of the upper extremity to maximum speed in wheelchair racing
Introduction Extensive studies have focused on the biomechanical characteristics of the range of motion, maximum velocity, force and moments, resistant load, and dimensional velocity contribution during wheelchair propulsion (Boninger, et al., 1997; Chow, et al., 2000; Wang, et al., 1997). However, the changed segmental velocities of the upper extremity during wheelchair racing have not been investigated. The purpose of this study was to determine the contributions of the segmental linear resultant velocity increments of the upper extremity to the maximum wheel speed (MWS) in wheelchair racing among the international elite wheelchair racers.
