Myocardial responses to intensive swimming training in amputee and paraplegic athletes

Introduction Athletes with special needs represent a growing population of sports participants and development of potential opportunities to engage in sport and other activities is the focus of key organisations such as the Special Olympics. For those with disability such as paraplegia and amputation such involvement assists in compensating for their lack of normal activity which in turn leads to other problems from inactivity such as cardiovascular disorders. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the myocardial responses to intensive swimming training (1ST) of amputee and paraplegic male swimmers.
