Towards Dynamic Virtual 3D World: Bringing Dynamics into Integrated 3D Indoor and Outdoor Virtual World

In this paper, we present a web-based system developed based on Google Earth plug-in that brings dynamic information from real-time sensors and video sequences into an integrated 3D indoor and outdoor virtual world. The system features the integration of real-time sensor information (i.e. temper ature) and dynamic movements of pedestrian and vehicles with a seamless 3D indoor and outdoor GIS database. In order to solve the problems in the imple mentation of the proposed system, we also propose several approaches for inte gration of indoor and outdoor models, integration and visualization of real-time sensor information, as well as moving object detection, recognition and visuali zation. The test results of our prototype system demonstrate the systems capability for implementing a dynamic 3D virtual world.
