Production of Bio-oil from Vacuum Pyroysis of Chinese Wheat Straw
The available Chinese wheat straw were pyrolyzed in fixed bed system under vacuum conditions which maintain a total pressure of 5~10 kpa, and the pyrolysis temperature of 400~550℃. When the pyrolysis temperature increased from 400 to 550℃, the yield of oil increased from 24.9wt% at the beginning to a maximum value of 35wt% at 500℃, and then decreased to22.5wt%.The char yield decreased from 57.2wt% to 38.3wt% over the whole temperature range, while gas yield increased from 17.9wt% to 39.2wt%. Wheat straw were characterized by elemental analysis which can obtain the major composition of wheat straw and by thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) which can reach the optimum pyrolytic temperature. Pyrolytic oils obtained under the most suitable conditions were characterized by FT-IR and GC-MS techniques. The results show that bio-oil from wheat straw contains large amount of small organic molecules, which mainly include methanol, ethanol, organic acid and alkane. It is possible to obtain pyrolytic oils that can be used as fuels and extracted valuable chemicals if the pyrolysis conditions are chosen accordingly.
