Two-component Waterborne Polyurethane fromTerpinene-maleic Ester Type Epoxy Resin

A two-component waterborne polyurethane (2K-WPU) was prepared with terpinene-maleic ester type epoxy resin based nonionic polyol dispersion and hydrophilically modified hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) tripolymer. Laser particle size analyzer (LPS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to characterize the particle size distribution and the micromorphology of the 2K-WPU. Crosslinking reaction kinetics of the 2K-WPU was examined by FT-IR spectra. In the preliminary stage of the crosslinking reaction, it showed a very good fit with a second order reaction kinetics, and the apparent activation energy was 87.10 kJ/mol. It was also shown from the FT-IR spectra that the complete crosslinking reaction of the 2K-WPU needed 7 h at 70 ℃ The mechanical, water resistance, antifouling and blocking resistance properties of the 2K-WPU crosslinked products were evaluated according to standard test methods, and the thermal properties were examined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA). The results showed the crosslinked products with Tg in the range of 35-40 had good thermal resistant properties, and the temperatures at 50% weight loss ( ℃ Td) were in the range of 380-412. The crosslinked products formed transparent, strong, flexible films with good ℃ water-resistance, antifouling, blocking resistance properties and excellent impact strength of >50 cm, flexibility of 0.5 mm, adhesion of 1 grade, pencil hardness of H-2H. The pencil hardness and thermal-resistant properties of the crosslinking products increased with the molar ratio of -NCO group to -OH group.
