Preparation and Structure Characterization of β-Caryophyllene Alcohol from Mason Pine Pitch and Its Antitussive and Expectorant Effects
Without separation of Heavy Turpentine from Mason Pine Pitch, β-Caryophyllene Alcohol can be prepared directly with β-caryophyllene in purity 99.76% and yield 6.6%, i.e., 43% with regard to β-Caryophyllene. Its structure was confirmed by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 13C NMR-DEPT, 1H-1H COSY, C-H COSY, LONG-RANGE C-H COSY, MS and EA. Animal experiments indicate that the title compound has significant antitussive, expectorant effect with clear dose -effect relationship. Effective administration of cough relieving in rats and sputum removing in rats and doves was 39.6 mg/kg, 12.4 mg/kg, 45.4 mg/kg respectively, so it can be applied to Antitussive, Expectorant.
