A Novel Porous Carbon Foam Prepared from Liquefied Birch Sawdust
A novel lightweight porous carbon foam with low bulk density was prepared by using birch sawdust as raw material and n-pentane as blowing agent, which underwent liquefaction, synthesis of phenolic resin, foaming, carbonization and activation steps. Influence of preparation parameters such as viscosity of resin prepared from liquefied birch sawdust, the temperature of carbonization and activation on the morphology, bulk density, specific surface area and pore distribution of carbon foam was investigated. The results indicate that carbon foam with low bulk density, 0.0229 g/cm2-0.0452 g/cm2, can be prepared from liquefied birch and its SBET was enlarged by the carbonization and activation of high temperature. SBET of the prepared carbon foam carbonized and activated at 800 under N ℃ 2 atmosphere can achieve 567.98 m2/g.
