Preparation of Low-AOX PAE Resin and Its Modification with Acrylic Acid
The preparation of Polyaminoamide-Epichlorohydrin (PAE) resin contained low AOX was performed in this study. At first, PPC was synthesized at 160 ℃ for 3 hours and then increased to 190 ℃ for 1 hour. The reaction temperature to prepare PAE was 60 ℃ and the molar ratio of EPI to PPC was 1:1, at pH 9, using PTSA as catalyst. The resulted PAE contained only 0.145% organic chlorine. The modification of the PAE generated by acrylic acid was then processed. The grafting rate of the modification was more than 98%. By FT-Raman spectroscopy, the strong absorption peak at the 1635cm-1 proved that C=C existed, and the double bonds were not destroyed during the modification. The application results showed that the modified PAE had higher paper wet strength efficiency and lower AOX discharge. Moreover, it can be cured by UV radiation instead of high temperature curing.
