Overview on Processing and Application of Lac
This is a review on shellac industry in China, mainly concerned about the status quo of its processing. Based on the analysis of physical and chemical characteristics of lac resin, the progress on its researches were discussed ranging from food, medicine & pharmacology, daily chemical products, coatings, adhesives and other application fields. It was also presented on the status quo of extraction, purification and application for shellac by-products such as red lac dye and lac wax. Modification on lac resin both chemically and physically are expected as future orientations, and the application prospects of red lac dye and lac wax are also showed eventually.
