VALIDATION OF COMPUTER SIMULATION TOOL FOR MODELING HEAT TRANSPORT IN MULTI-LAYERED SYSTEMS OF BUILDING MATERIALS

A validation of computer code TRANSMAT 6.2 designed for modeling coupled moisture, heat and salt transport in porous building materials and their multi-layered systems is presented in the paper. Experimentally measured data that are obtained within a semi-scale experiment are used for that purpose. Semi-scale experiments for testing hygrothermal performance of building envelopes present a logical bridge filling the gap between the laboratory measurements of hygrothermal properties combined with computational modeling and full-scale test house measurements of field variables of heat and moisture transport. Here, the investigated structure consists of the construction detail of window frame inbuilt in brick wall that is provided with interior thermal insulation system based on hydrophilic mineral wool. Within the semi-scale experiment, temperature and relative humidity fields in the studied structure are measured. The experimental situation is then modeled using computer code TRANSMAT 6.2. As the input data, material properties of the applied materials are used together with the initial and boundary conditions of the experiment. The experimental and computed data are then compared, and on the basis of the observed differences, the inverse modeling process is carried out. Finally, the correlated material properties and validated computer code are used for long-term simulation of studied structure performance.
