ANALYSIS ON PHASE CHANGE RATE IN FINITE AREA

This paper studied a phase change process of phase change material (PCM) application building energy storage, discussed the action and function relation of dimensionless quantity , which decide phase change rate at the finite area by the theory of heat transfer with phase change. With software CFD, numerical simulated the solid/liquid of the PCM at one column area under the different thermal boundary conditionthe relationship of PCM solid/liquid ratiothe time of phase change processthe mobile rate of phase change interface in different thermal boundary conditions have been given, and fitting out the function between  with Ste. Results of research showed that the temperature conditions on the phase-change rate (η) of the impact should be larger than the boundary conditions to promote the role of thermal phase transition occurs. In the same thermal boundary conditions, η is greater of the temperature at high than the temperatures is low, At the same temperature, the value of the η is greater at the first thermal boundary conditions than the third thermal boundary condition. Phase-change rate (η) is non-linear with temperature increases, the increase rate of η at the lower temperature is less than the high temperature. Thus, in practice, may be required based on the specific conditions of time and energy storage requirements, select the appropriate temperature conditions to get the best benefit.
